Jeddah Superdome Named SEE Finalist

The Jeddah Superdome was named a finalist in the Innovation Materials & Applications category of the 2026 Structural Engineering Excellence (SEE) Awards, organized by the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations (NCSEA).

Geometrica worked with main contractor Losberger De Boer to design and build the dome for Sela Sports Company in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. With a column-free span of 210 meters, the venue provides an open interior for exhibitions, concerts, sporting events and large gatherings.

A key feature of the design is its "Saturn" geometry, which uses a repeating pattern of triangular modules to simplify manufacturing and assembly. More than half of the structural members in each layer are identical, reducing the number of distinct components required. The double-layer structure remained self-supporting throughout construction, allowing assembly to progress from the perimeter toward the apex without scaffolding or temporary support towers beneath the dome.

To accelerate delivery, Geometrica shipped a manufacturing line and structural connectors from Monterrey, Mexico, to Jeddah. On-site manufacturing and installation proceeded concurrently, with newly fabricated components incorporated into the dome as assembly progressed.

Upon opening in 2021, the Jeddah Superdome earned two Guinness World Records titles: largest geodesic dome and largest dome with a continuous roof. Its uninterrupted interior allows organizers to adapt seating, stages and exhibition layouts to the needs of each event.
